JOURNEY TO THE WEST
ArtCN makes it’s return with “Journey to the West”, a pop-up exhibition borrowing its title to a 16th-century Chinese classic tale of faith, resilience, and spiritual awakening. Curated by Anne-Cécile Noïque and hosted by 12, an innovative exhibition space nestled in an historic building, "Journey to the West" marks ArtCN’s debut exhibition outside of China and celebrates the gallery’s own spiritual and physical move to the West. The exhibition features nine artists, encouraging a dynamic dialogue between culture and identity, revealing how art transcends borders through the interlacing of different influences.ArtCN makes it’s return with “Journey to the West”, a pop-up exhibition borrowing its title to a 16th-century Chinese classic tale of faith, resilience, and spiritual awakening. Pietre Paesine is a series of six tapestries, created in the wake of the monumental tapestry Epic of the Mind. The tapestries are reflecting themes that run throughout her work, such as memory, the passage of time, and human fragility. Aëgerter incorporates elements from the archives of Het museum van de Geest (Haarlem) as apparitions in a dream. 'Pietre paesine’ are ‘landscape stones’, limestones with naturally occurring patterns that resemble sceneries.
These Jacquard tapestries are made with mixed yarns including mohair yarns and phosphorescent yarns (glow-in-the-dark). These yarns create latent images that reveal themselves in the dark.
