LIU Zhenchen is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works between Paris, Hamburg, and Shanghai. He studied painting and video at the Fine Arts College of Shanghai University and Villa Arson – the National School of Fine Arts in Nice, before receiving his Post-Diplôme from Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts in Tourcoing, France, in 2007.
Deeply engaged with both social and environmental concerns, LIU explores the complexities of contemporary life through moving images, installations, and painting. His work often delves into the postmodern urban experience, blending poetic visuals with critical reflection.
Over the years, LIU has garnered numerous awards and exhibited internationally across major film and visual arts platforms, including the Locarno Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival, Les Rencontres d’Arles Photo Festival, Nuit Blanche in Paris, Transmediale in Berlin, Ars Electronica in Linz, as well as prestigious venues like the Grand Palais, Palais de Tokyo, Centre Pompidou (Paris), Kunst Museum Bonn, Contemporary Art Museum in Marseille, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
His work is included in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou.
