Wan Qiong
b. 1975, China · Based in Shanghai
Wan Qiong (b. 1975, China) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Shanghai. Born into an artistic family and trained in oil painting at Shanghai University’s College of Fine Arts, she works primarily with ceramics, watercolor and installation. Rooted in personal experience, her practice explores life, love, care, transformation and the invisible connections between people and the world around them.
Ceramics are central to her practice. She embraces the unpredictability of clay, glaze and firing, allowing chance, fragility and transformation to shape the final work. Her watercolors, by contrast, rely on fluidity and restraint. Across media, Wan uses material processes to reflect inner perception, memory, emotional states and the resilience of life.
